How To Change Price On Paypal ?

If you are selling ebooks or any kind of digital products on your website then you are probably using Paypal. I recently decided to change the price of an ebook I have been selling for over a year now. I decided to experiment by increasing the price slightly.

You have to change the price on Paypal side, otherwise it is not going to reflect in the checkout area. You should not be creating new buttons to reflect the price change – this is like reinventing the wheel – because if you change the button code then you have to update the code in lots of different places (on your sales page, third party product delivery products etc). You need to edit the existing button and change the price.

Changing the price on Paypal side is quite simple but Paypal does not have any documentation on it (at least I could not find any). It is a two step process but if you don’t know how to do it, you will end up spending hours on their site.

Let me now take you through the steps involved in changing the price on Paypal:

Log in to your PayPal account.

Click “Profile” from the top of the page.

Click “My saved buttons” in the Selling Preferences column.

Select the button you want to change, and then choose “Edit button” from the menu.

Make your changes to the button, and then click “Save Changes.”

That’s it – once you do this, your new price will be reflected everywhere that button or that code is used – No need to change anything else…

Best,

Have you ever been so impressed by colors on a web page and wanted to copy those colors for your page – I am guessing the answer is ‘many times’. It is really quite simple and easy to copy the colors – all that you need to know if the rgb or the hex values for that color. I use a software called ColorZilla. It is an extension of Firefox.

It is a free software and you can download from here – ColorZilla.

Once you download and install ColorZilla, it will show up as below in the left bottom corner of Firefox.

Google Search- When To Use Quotes and When Not To

When you are trying to analyze the rankings for your web page or trying to analyze the competition for your keyword, should you or should you not use quotes for the search terms? When should you use quotes and when should you not use quotes?

In my early days, these questions really bothered me quite a bit – But I now know the answer and today I am going to share the answer with you all…

When you use quotes for your search terms, Google will show only the web pages that have the entire phrase in them.

When you don’t use quotes, Google will show web pages that have one or more of the words in the search term.

When you use quotes and search, assume your page ranks on page 4th…Now search without quotes and your page will probably rank on 5th or 6th page or even further.

Quotes
Let’s start with quotes for your search terms. When you are analyzing the competition for your keyword you need to use quotes. When you are analyzing the competition for the keyword ‘Hello Kitty Watches’, you only want the web pages that have the entire phrase in them – not just ‘hello’ or ‘kitty’ or ‘watches’. So by targeting the entire phrase, you are getting a picture of the exact competition to that keyword.

No Quotes
When you are trying to figure out where your web page is ranking for a keyword, then use the search term without quotes. Most web users will search for what they are after without using quotes in their search terms. So, to get a picture of where exactly your page is ranked and to see it at place where most web users are seeing it, you need to search without quotes.

Is this usually how you use quotes and non quotes – If you would like to share any tips on this topic, please leave a comment below…

Best,

A favicon (short for favorites icon), also known as a website icon, shortcut icon, url icon, or bookmark icon is a 16×16, 32×32 or 64×64 pixel square icon associated with a particular website or webpage.
source: Wikipedia

Let me give you an example…

Here is a snapshot of CNN website and I have used an arrow to point to the favicon.

Apart from coming up next to the url, favicon will also come up next to the bookmark.

Adding this favicon is really simple – a simple job but a very good effect. Last night I added the favicon to my new lifestyle themed affiliate blog. Here is how to add a favicon to your lifestyle theme:

Grab the image you want to add as a favicon

Head over to this http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/. This website converts your image to a favicon image.

Now upload this image to your images folder of the Lifestyle theme – should be something like this – /wp-content/themes/lifestyle_40/images.

That’t it – Now refresh your website on the browser and you should see the favicon.

If you don’t use lifestyle theme, the first two steps still remain the same. The third step and fourth steps are as follows:

Add the code

anywhere between the
and
tags in your header.php file.

Upload your favicon to the root directory of your blog.

That’s it – You are done.

Have you got a favicon for your website? If not, why not add one today !!!

Best,

My Keyword Suggestion Tool

The keyword suggestion tool I use on a daily basis is Wordtracker – I have it open in one of the tabs on my browser almost for the entire time I am at work. I don’t know where I would be without my Wordtracker.

Wordtracker has made me a lot of money. Thank You Thank You Thank You

And here is the best part – There are two versions of Wordtracker – Paid and Free – I use the free version.

The paid version definitely has more features than the free version. But for now I am more than happy with the free version.

Okay, here is how to use wordtracker:

Go to Wordtracker

Type in the keyword you are looking to research – and click ‘Hit Me’.

This will now show you the keywords that include the word that you just typed in before clicking ‘Hit Me’.

Now I have a list of related keywords and keyword phrases. I pick one or two keywords from the list – I pick them after analyzing the competition for the keywords and then comparing it against the number of searches.

So, if I am planning to write something about ‘easter egg hunt’ then I type that phrase in Wordtracker, click ‘Hit Me’ and it gives me the below related words and phrases:

From the above results, I will pick the one that meets my criteria (criteria based on searches and competition). There is no point writing an article without using the right keywords – to make money you have to use the right keywords – And Wordtracker is the tool that will help you with that.

If I had to pick one tool that is most valuable to my business (other than Google) then it would be Wordtracker.

What keyword suggestion tool do you use ? Would love to hear from you…

Best,

How To Make Money Blogging With The Right Keywords - My Tips

Making money from Blogging starts with traffic. Traffic comes when you write the right posts – right posts that are well optimized – all this starts from picking the right keywords.

Today, I am going to share with you all my tips on how to make money blogging with the right keywords:

Don’t Blog Blind
Don’t blog without a purpose. Before you start writing a post, make sure you know what you are going to be writing about. Every now and then you can write some posts which are the about your daily rants – but otherwise you always know what you are targeting and what your aim is with the post. And on a side note, even the daily rants can be easily converted into posts with a purpose (more on this later).

Pick Your Keywords
Before I start writing, I open the free Wordtracker in one of my tabs in my browser. Once I know my topic, I go to my Wordtracker and see what keywords are relevant for that topic. If I am in a luck, I find a good long tail keyword. If no long tail keywords then I pick two to three good keywords for the topic I am writing about.
And going back to my side note for my daily rants – If I am writing about say, negative thoughts, then I plug that phrase in Wordtracker and quickly see if there are any keywords I can target with that post – If find some relevant keywords then I optimize that post for those keywords.

Write For Eyeballs
Optimizing for the relevant keywords does not mean that you use those keywords way too many times – it does not mean you write a post which does not make good reading for humans but excellent reading for Google Bots. You don’t want posts like that – Because always remember that ultimately it is the humans that build your readership – Not search engines. Be clever , put some thought and use the keywords in the right places and in the right amount. Make sure your post is a good read – You don’t want your visitor to click through to your site and then hit the ‘back’ button straight after. You want them to stay, read and enjoy your post.

Internal Links
When writing a post, if you can link to other posts then be sure to provide the internal links – Just make sure you using the right keywords when doing this.

Post Series
Sometimes some keywords might need a series of posts all inter connected. I don’t do this for all keywords I target. But if a keyword has a reasonable number of searches and if there is also a reasonable amount of competition then I write a series of posts – By writing a series of posts, you will get better ranking.

Once you get the traffic, and once your readers like what they read on your posts, then they will buy from you. So, making money is phase two. Phase one is writing the right stuff. Once you do this, traffic will come and the money will follow.

What are your tips on the topic of ‘How To Make Money Blogging With The Right Keywords’…

Best,

Link Popularity Vs Link Reputation

Link Popularity is the number of links pointing to your page. It is the number of inbound links to your web page.

More links to your page means more people are talking about your page and thus increasing the popularity of your page.

Therefore more the number of inbound links, higher your page’s popularity.

When determining your rankings, search engines don’t just look at the link popularity alone. They also look at the quality of the links – Quality of links is determined by the link popularity of the web page that is providing you the link.

So, the links you get from a page with a higher link popularity carries more weight than a link from a page with less popularity.

Link Reputation is the anchor text – Link Reputation are the words that describe that your page. And so while popularity is important, what other pages are saying about your page is more important.

If most of your inbound links to your page use the words ‘strawberry short cake’ then you will rank well for that phrase. The thing is, it really does not matter whether your page is about strawberry short cake or not – because that is what most pages are saying about your page when linking to you, that is the phrase you will rank well for.

SEO experts say that Link Reputation is more important than link popularity. The anchor text has to be consistent – So that is why wherever possible, when you are getting links to your page, make sure you use the keyword you want to rank for.

Where you rank in search engines is a combination of link popularity and link reputation plus a few other factors – As far as linking goes, focus on getting more links with the right anchor text – This way you have the popularity and reputation both covered.

This is why sometimes the number one page might have much less inbound links than the number two or number three ranked page. In this case the quality and the reputation of links for the number one page is much higher than the number two or three.

Best,

Assume you are linking to page A from page B, the anchor text should be the keyword you are trying to get the page A ranked for.

When you are asking other webmasters for reciprocal links, make sure you send them the html for your link. For example, for my website http://www.OzKidsActivities.com, when I am asking for reciprocal links I send the following html code in the email – (enclose in <> and place < after the word 'Australia')

‘a href=”http://www.OzKidsActivities.com”>Kids Activities In Australia/a’.

When this code is placed in the web page, it translates into – Kids Activities In Australia.

The keyword I am trying to get my site ranked for is the anchor text…

When creating internal links as well make sure you are using the right keywords for anchor text. Internal links play a very important role in search engine optimization – so don’t make your internal link a waste, be sure to use the right keyword for the anchor text.

Do you know what keyword Adobe ranks for – It is ‘click here’. Most of us when linking to adobe say something along the line -’if you don’t have pdf reader, you can get it when you click here‘ – in the cyber world there are so many links pointing to adobe with the anchor text ‘click here’ – And so Adobe ranks number one for the phrase ‘click here’.

This example illustrates the importance of using the right keyword. But of course adobe is so popular, so with or without the links, people will still use it. Unfortunately we are all not adobe, so for us anchor text plays a very important role in our rankings.

When you write and submit articles, in your signature make sure you use the right anchor text – So many people just use the link – What a waste !!!! And then some use the wrong text – Use anchor text but not just any text, use the keyword as the anchor text.

How about you – do you always use anchor text ?

Best,

Personalized Search On Google - Good Idea For SEO ?

Google tries to personalize your search results. Google keeps track of what you are searching for on Google.com. It can however only keep track of your searches while you are logged into you Gmail account – otherwise how will it know who you are ?

So, as long as you are logged onto Gmail and simultaneously searching for something on Google then everything you search and every web page you click on will be stored against your Gmail account details.

The reason Google does this is because it would like to personalize your search as much as possible.

If you are regularly searching on Google for ‘tunturi treadmills’ and usually clicking on the same of couple of websites (from the results), then Google assumes that you like these two websites more than the others.

So if the first few times these results were 7th and 8th on Google rankings, pretty soon Google bumps them up to higher rankings – higher rankings only when you are searching for ‘tunturi treadmills’ and while you have your Gmail account logged on.

Not such a bad idea – Personalized search does make things easier and is more personal. But the problem occurs if you are an internet marketer.

I sell handwriting ebooks on one of my websites. You can view this website by clicking – Handwriting Worksheets. I am constantly checking links and trying to push this site higher up in Google for the keyword ‘handwriting worksheets’.

As a result I visit this website quite often. And I also usually have my Gmail account logged on. Google now assumes that I love my own handwriting ebooks site. And so, now when I search for ‘handwriting worksheets’, my site shows up at number 3.

If I however log out of Gmail and then search for ‘handwriting worksheets’, then my website shows up at number 10.

You don’t have to be a genius to guess that number 10 is the true ranking for my website. Number 3 is a personalized search result – Number 3 result is a false indicator.

And so, if you are interent marketer and need to check rankings of your website, make sure you log out of your Gmail – There are other options like cleaning cookings, changing browsers and using a different computers ect…

For now I prefer logging out of Gmail when I am checking my rankings.

Do you like Personalized Google Search – What are your opinions ?

Best,

Wordpress 'More' Tag - Are You Using It Or Not ?

When you use ‘more’ tag on your blog post, you only display a part of your post and to read the rest the reader will have to click the ‘more’ tag. I use ‘more’ tag on all my blogs and I love it.

If you don’t use the ‘more’ tag, then you will display the entire content of your post on the homepage – and not just of one post, but the number of posts your homepage is set to display – So, if your homepage is set to display 5 posts then you will be showing full content of your most recent 5 posts.

Displaying full posts like this can make your blog look quite ugly. And also the reader is going to get bored by lengthy content and might move away from your homepage after just scrolling through one or two posts.

If you have ‘more’ tag then only excerpts of your posts will be displayed and the reader can quickly scan through the different posts you have recently written and if he likes to read one, he can start by reading the excerpt and then click the ‘more’ tag – so you are not missing out anything by using ‘more’ tag, in fact you are gaining.

At What Point Shoud I Insert My ‘More’ Tag ?
This is what I do – My ‘more’ tag is usually placed after 5 to 8 sentences of my post. I place it at a point where I am just about to give my readers more information – They can’t read my more information until they click the ‘more’ tag.

So basically I place it just when I have aroused curiosity in my readers. I also like to insert an image before my ‘more’ tag – This way the image will be displayed in the excerpt itself – Images can beautify the post and also will make the post look exciting rather than just plain, boring content. So, I highly recommend using an image in the excerpt.

Where Is My ‘More’ Tag & How Do I Insert It ?

‘More’ tag is in the quick tags of your wordpress.

Just click the ‘more’ tag at the point you want to insert it – That simple !!!

Can I Customize My ‘more’ Tag?
Yes, you can. You can change the text the ‘more’ tag displays – example: ‘Read More’, ‘Continue Reading’ etc etc…

You can either change the text in one place so that the change is reflected on all your posts. Or you can change it one post at a time. I have changed it in my index.php file (my wordpress theme’s files) – This change in php file will flow through to all my posts – and I prefer it this way.

If you like to change in individual posts, then click and paste your more tag and then enter your custom text – It will look something like this (without quotes and enclose it in <>):

“!–more This is my custom more text–”

If you like you can even place an image right next to the ‘more’ tag – There is heaps of information on this topic in wordpress help pages – Here is a link – WordPress ‘More’ Tag Help

When you use a ‘more’ tag, your rss feed will show only the excerpt and not full post – I don’t see any harm in this – Again, if the reader finds your excerpt interesting and useful for him then he will definitely click for more.

Do you use more tag? If no, would love to hear your reasons behind…If yes, do you find it helpful?

Best,
