Google Analytics: How To Locate Tracking Javascript Code for Existing Website / Profile
Every time I have to find the tracking code on Google Analytics for one of my existing websites, I hit the same stumbling block – ‘Where is the code and how do I find it ?’
I have accessed the tracking code for my existing websites many times on Google Analytics but I never seem to remember how to access it straightaway.
I click here, I click there and after a few trial and errors, I finally find it – and before I know I have spent around 30 minutes on a task that is supposed to be super simple. Google has for some reason not made the access to this code very straight forward.
I decided that it is about time I document the steps involved, so next time I don’t have to waste as much time. Here we go:
- Log into your Google Analytics
- From the Analytics Settings page, find the website you are looking the tracking code for
- Click Edit (in the Action column of your website profile)
- Click Check Status at the top-right of the table
That’s it – those are the four simple steps – simple steps which have drove me crazy many time – not any more though (:-).
Best,
