Search Engine Ranking By Keyword – Stage One

by Sandy Naidu

Getting top ranking for the keywords you are targeting can sometimes take a long time – sometimes weeks and sometimes months. You need to be patient and persistent. You have to keep doing what you need to do everyday to get your pages to the top of the search engine rankings.

Once I have written well optimized content on a web page, I then work on getting that page to the top search engine ranking (for the keywords I am targeting with that page).

Search Engine Ranking By Keyword I usually follow the same process to get top ranking for all my web pages. My process is made up of two different stages.

Stage one usually lasts for at least a month (and usually for 3 months).

Let me now take you through the steps involved in Stage One and show you how I work on my search engine ranking by keyword:

  1. I note down where the page is ranked for that keyword – Sometimes my page might not be ranked at all
  2. I note down how many inbound links I have for that page
  3. If my page is already ranked, I make sure the description and title is optimized. If I think I need to make changes, I make the change and also note down what changes I have made
  4. Make a note of how many inbound links the top result web page has (number one ranked page in Google for that keyword)
  5. Create Google Alerts for that Keyword and then I create a filter in my Gmail account to move these alerts into a separate folder
  6. Create a RSS feed in Yahoo answers and add that to Google Reader

And one thing I forgot to add is about double listing. During my stage one, I always try and get rankings for two of my pages for the keyword – So basically for the keyword I am targeting, I am aiming for two search engine spots – Number one for my primary page and Number two for my secondary page.

I make all my notes in an excel workbook. I come back every two weeks to this workbook and update where my page is for that keyword. That’s it – This is my Stage One and usually I get good ranking within a month or two.

If my efforts in my stage one has not worked at the end of 3 months, I then move to Stage two. I will write about my Stage Two process in a future post.

Best,
