SEO Consultancy

Last year I was approached by a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Consultancy company to work for them on a part-time basis. I was excited mainly because at that stage my Internet Marketing business was still in very early stages and I was not earning as much as I was previously earning in my previous software consultancy business.

So the thought of receiving some stable income for a few hours of work every week seemed very promising. Wrong thinking process !!!!

I should have rather poured those hours into my business and concentrated on growing that rather than getting distracted. You live and learn

I started my new job and was loving it – hmm loving it for a couple of hours or so…Let me explain why the enthusiasm lasted only for a couple of hours.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very unique field – unless you are paid very well for offering your SEO services to other companies, you always make more money working on your own sites.

I was building links, writing articles, optimizing the pages – all for other people’s websites. And was getting paid for it but not as much as I would earn if I put that very same effort into my own websites.

After a couple of months it struck me that I am wasting my valuable time. I quit my consultancy job and started working full time on my own business. I am glad I did not dilly-dally and quit the consultancy job straight away.

People who are good at SEO usually prefer to work on their own sites – they only work on other people’s sites if the rewards are very good – Otherwise it does not make sense…
